My first Hexagenia hatch experience this summer shocked me. Unfortunatley I wasn’t fishing- I was in a bar. I was travelling through Southern Minnesota (on I-90) and stayed near a shallow silty-bottomed lake. The following note was scribbled in my journal:
Huge yellow mayfly- Hex? Size 8, Long dark double tail
1 on window @ 6 PM
100 on wall @ 10 PM
1,000 at gas station at 4 AM
